How to Add a Word Cloud to PowerPoint or Google Slides
Neither PowerPoint nor Google Slides has a built-in word cloud tool. The fastest way around that: generate the cloud here, download it as an image, and insert it like any other picture.
1. Generate your word cloud
Paste the text for your slide — talking points, survey answers, feedback — or upload a spreadsheet if you want word size to reflect a number (votes, ratings, search volume) instead of repetition. Adjust the color palette and font so it fits your slide design, and pick a rounded or square silhouette depending on the layout.
2. Download it as a transparent PNG
Click "Download PNG". Because the background is transparent rather than white, the word cloud will sit directly on your slide's background or color scheme, without a visible box around it — no need to remove a background in another tool first.
3. Insert it into PowerPoint
- Go to Insert → Pictures → This Device.
- Select the PNG you downloaded.
- Resize and position it on the slide — it stays transparent at any size.
4. Insert it into Google Slides
- Go to Insert → Image → Upload from computer.
- Select the PNG you downloaded.
- Resize and position it like any other image on the slide.
Why not screenshot it instead?
A screenshot captures whatever background color is behind the cloud on your screen, plus any surrounding interface — you'd need to crop and remove that background before it looks right on a slide. Downloading the PNG directly skips all of that: it's already cropped to the cloud itself, with a transparent background baked in.
Matching your slide's design
- Match your brand or theme colors. Pick "Custom…" in the color palette and enter the hex codes from your slide deck's theme, so the cloud reads as part of the design rather than a pasted-in extra.
- A rounded shape suits a centered slide layout; a square one fills the space better if the cloud needs to stretch edge to edge behind text or alongside other elements.
- For a higher-resolution export, make your browser window larger before generating — the downloaded PNG matches the size the cloud is rendered at on screen, which matters if you're projecting on a big screen or printing the slide.
Frequently asked questions
Can I still edit the word cloud after adding it to my slide?
Not as text inside PowerPoint or Slides — it's a flattened image, like a photo. If you need to change a word or the styling, go back to CloudMyWords, adjust it there, and download a new PNG to replace the old one.
What resolution is the exported image?
It matches the size the word cloud is displayed at in your browser when you click Download. A larger browser window (or a bigger screen) produces a larger, higher-resolution PNG.
Will the transparent background work in an older version of PowerPoint?
Yes — PNG transparency has been supported since very old versions of PowerPoint and Keynote, not just recent ones.
